GIRL MATH: Spend Money to Make Money
The EDIT that will put cash in your pocket
Consider this Part 1 of The Preferred Edit version of digital empowerment (Part 2 drops tomorrow). These EDITS are sequential for a reason, so follow along.
This EDIT is rooted in my desire to share the things I genuinely prefer, especially the ones that make life a little more intentional and put actual cash in your pocket. Yes, truly!
The EDIT that follows this two-part series is raw, emotional, and real. As I grow here, I will find a cadence that blends both the practical and the personal. Stick with me as I find my way.
Let’s Begin With the Tool That Surprised Me Most
The tool that literally gives me money back for the things I am planning to buy.
Yes, Rakuten. (I’ll make it easy…click here for the link).
If you already use it, you know.
If you don’t, you're welcome! (I am shocked by how many people have never tried it.)
And a special thank you to the gal who introduced it to me (Jen Coleman, you changed my shopping life).
Rakuten is the quieter and smarter version of Girl Math. It has handed me actual cash, a total of $7,400 in cash back, and made my shopping far less reactionary and far more intentional.
How It Works (and Why It Works So Well)
It is simple and I mean simple.
1. Start at Rakuten and choose a store.
Use the website, the app, or my preference, the browser extension.
2. Activate Cash Back and shop as usual.
Eligible purchases are automatically tracked and added to your account.
3. Get paid.
Add your address and you will receive your money by check or PayPal.
That is it.
No hoops. No gimmicks. And it is FREE!
Pro tip:
I do not use PayPal, so I opt for the check. Rakuten emails you when it is sent, but the envelope looks exactly like junk mail, so do not toss it.
And yes, it requires a touch of mindfulness. I am sure I have missed far too many cash back opportunities by forgetting to activate it, but once you get that first notification, the Girl Math part of your brain lights up and you never look back.
My biggest earner?
Mattresses for my new home.
(It still shocks me.)
Do not wait on this one. There is literally cash waiting to be earned with every last minute holiday gift.
With purpose, possibility, and intention,

You never know when a word from an old friend will land! I love hearing about your life, and just happened to stumble on this today while drinking my coffee. I had completely forgotten about Rakuten even though I’ve had it on my phone for years - thanks for the reminder.
Have never used but going to start!
