"The grief is that everything went right." I had to stop there.

I have two launched kids — both chose schools eight to ten hours away. That was their idea, not mine. I told them early I wasn't going to college with them so they'd better figure things out. Turns out they believed me. My son will likely never leave where he landed. My daughter is moving back to Chicago in November.

I just hung up the phone with her before I read this. The timing felt like something. Still figuring out what I am now that they don't need the guardrails anymore — but today, for a few minutes, she's coming home.
