"The grief is that everything went right." I had to stop there.
I have two launched kids — both chose schools eight to ten hours away. That was their idea, not mine. I told them early I wasn't going to college with them so they'd better figure things out. Turns out they believed me. My son will likely never leave where he landed. My daughter is moving back to Chicago in November.
I just hung up the phone with her before I read this. The timing felt like something. Still figuring out what I am now that they don't need the guardrails anymore — but today, for a few minutes, she's coming home.
Ooof, this hits hard as my eldest is wrapping up high school and preparing for the next chapter. Leslie, I so enjoy reading your musings, edits, and the little glimpses into your current world. Happy for you because you sound so happy.
“We’re each writing a story where we are the main character, and everyone else, our parents, our partners, our children, is a secondary character we’ve cast and shaped. We don’t actually know them. We know the version of them we’ve created.” This hits deep for everyone, even if they are not parents.
Awww I love you so much mom! My best friend in every lifetime and the person I go to for any advice ❤️❤️
The best momma around. As always, with love & affection…💕🥂
Cheers to you my dear friend! Enjoy every moment of your well deserved trip and retirement celebration. 🥂
