The Refined Holiday
Simple, intentional tips to transform the season into something calm and beautifully easy
I’ve spent years refining the holidays. I adopted and adapted routines that stripped out the chaos and brought in something that felt almost radical: ease.
It didn’t start that way. I used to be right there in the crowds, chasing down Christmas until the night before. Now, in my Era of Ease, it looks like this: shopping done, gifts wrapped, and holiday cards sent… all by November 15th. (Yes, I am that person, sitting back with a glass of Prosecco, holiday music humming, and Christmas movies playing.)
But even though we’re already well into the season, it’s not too late to create a rhythm that brings you ease now and builds a foundation for years to come. As always, the theme is simplicity.
Here are two of my favorite holiday-easing tips, straight from my personal arsenal.
TIP ONE: Holiday Cards Without the Mayhem
I adore sending and receiving holiday cards. Up until this year, I took great pride in being the first envelope in everyone’s mailbox. (This year I’m intentionally arriving later… more on that in an upcoming subscriber edition.)
After years of stuffing, licking, and stamping nearly 400 cards for friends and for my late husband George’s business associates, I found support. (Because let’s be real, if you knew George, you know that involving him would have resulted in a good-natured MESS involving spilled red wine.)
Enter: PaperCulture.com.
My secret weapon for years.
This isn’t groundbreaking, and more and more friends are discovering it, and their offering is exceptional. You upload your address list once (yes, it takes a little time to convert your current system into a spreadsheet… but you only have to do it once), and they handle everything else: printing, stuffing, stamping, and mailing. You even choose your preferred ship date.
Their customer service is incredible too. Years ago, they accidentally mailed my cards at Halloween (yes, Halloween) and immediately resolved it with a full refund and future credit. (The upside? I received a flood of hilarious messages from friends, so I consider it a win.)
The best part? They always have a sale, and if you subscribe, they remind you. In fact, they are currently offering 50% off all holiday cards through 12/11!
Once your spreadsheet exists, it’s easy to update when friends move… and suddenly the holiday-card project that once consumed days becomes a task that takes minutes.
The hardest part is choosing the design, but that’s the fun part anyway.
TIP TWO: Wrapping (My Simple, Beautiful, Year-Round System)
I take great pride in this one because it is foolproof, elegant, and borderline life-changing.
Gone are the days of the overflowing wrapping closet filled with crushed bows, wrinkled paper, and a rainbow of ribbons that somehow still left you without the one you needed.
And I no longer find myself wandering through Michaels or Hobby Lobby in December, which my nervous system thanks me for every single year.
I love this photo for so many reasons…The gifts, the tree, the memories of that year and of course my beloved, Chappy, who blends right into it all so beautifully!
Here’s my entire system:
1. Kraft Paper, Always and Only
For every gift, every occasion, all year long: natural kraft paper.
Not the thick brown art paper or postal wrap (learned that the hard way), but the true thin kraft wrapping roll.
A 75 ft roll costs under $7 and lasts me through the year. It’s simple, chic, and incredibly versatile. (It’s even on sale now for $4.89.) You can buy it here!
2. Grosgrain Ribbon Purchased the Smart Way
Skip Michaels. You will overspend.
Buy in bulk from Uline.com, where you can choose color, width, and roll size (50 to 100 yards). If you haven’t used Uline before, they ships FAST!
My staples: cream, red, blue, and pink. Here are your options.
I stack the rolls on a paper-towel holder so they spin easily as I wrap. Truly the easiest hack. One like this works great and fits up to 5+ rolls of ribbon.
3. Merchandise Tags
Cream, White or Kraft, bought in bulk.
Amazon or Michaels is perfect for this. Uline sells them by the thousand, which is a lot of tags. Here are a couple options from Amazon (Kraft Tags or Handmade Tags). I avoid the “holiday” looking tags - remember this is about creating simplicity. Holiday specific tags don’t work for birthdays. Save yourself the money and go with something you can use year-round.
This system saves time, money, and energy, and it frees up actual physical space.
And everything you need for any gift, any time, is always within reach.
Holiday Ease, Delivered
It’s not profound, but it works. And yes, my gifts are already wrapped, but that’s because I buy throughout the year, listening for the little hints of what will delight the people I love so I never have to sprint toward the holiday finish line.
With love and a little Prosecco,

Perfection 🤗
Ok, taking these tips and running with it!
