The college drop off can feel like a door slam. It's not. Initially it will feel that way. Now that I have grown kids, I've decided that being a family over distance is simply our new way of being a family.
I love that you want to reinvent yourself. I suspect you will more than once.
Discovering a new purpose took me some trial and error, which surprised me.
I love your perspective. It's definitely a new way of being. And yes, I suspect I will have a couple of trial and errors along the way too. I appreciate the comment. You leave me feeling encouraged. Thank you!
What a beautiful article. I think we are always kinda reinventing right? Maybe sometimes we are more aware or less aware of it, but reinventing is living.
I hope your daughter loves college and yall can kinda find a closeness even far away. Thats what I hope anyhow. Sending hugs.
Thank you for your words. I agree. Life is a constant reinvention. This era feels more like a stamp in time. The beginning and ending colliding in unison. I am excited about what’s to come and am SO fortunate that Elise and I have such a wonderful relationship. And thank goodness for the technology that allows us to connect effortlessly in this day and age. ♥️🙏
Both of my kids are grown and flown and living 4 states away. But we find ways to connect and find a new normal with them. My husband has a Thursday night standing date with our son to watch anime shows through the computer. We still invite them to join us for vacations (we pay of course). My daughter and I will binge watch "The Pitt" when we are together. It is not the same but it will do.
I love this. I’m not full empty yet but on my way there. It’s so painful. In ways I didn’t expect. And I do feel unmoored and mapless. Feeling around for what comes next.

Architect. I love to design and conceptualize.
